Susan L. Procaccini

Susan Laurie Dembeck Procaccini
SAVANNAH - Susan Laurie Dembeck Procaccini passed into the loving arms of Our Lord on May 11, 2013 following a brief but brave battle with cancer.
Susan and her husband, Nicholas, retired to The Landings in Savannah, GA in 2012. During their respective careers with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Susan, Nicholas and their daughter, Nicole, lived in Princeton, NJ; Stanford, CT; Karachi, Pakistan; Lima, Peru; Sao Paulo, Brazil and Santiago, Chile where they adopted their daughter, Nicole. Born in 1951 in Pittsburgh, PA, Susan graduated from Fontbonne Academy, the University of Dayton and received a Masters degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. After teaching elementary school in Mt. Lebanon, PA, she began her career with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. However, her dedication to teaching, coupled with her desire to provide an educational environment for her young daughter and other expat children, was rekindled when she founded a pre-school program she named Hop-Along College while living in Pakistan. During her years in Brazil Sue was most noted for her lavish and eccentric lawn parties in honor of her 3 dogs. Susan was an avid golfer and ardent fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. She created and served as Grand Marshall of the annual Dembeck/Procaccini College Football Bowl Pool. She also enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and traveling. Susan was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Savannah.
She is survived by her husband Nicholas, daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Benjamin Pletcher of Raleigh, NC; two step sons, David and Adam Procaccini; two sisters and brothers-in-laws, Drs. Nancy and John Richert of Cambridge, MA and Christine and Dr. Daniel Arnold of Orlando, FL: and a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Janet Dembeck of St. Mary's, GA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 14, at St. James Catholic Church. Following the Mass, interment will be at Greenwich Cemetery on Bonaventure Road.
Flowers will be accepted or donations in her honor to the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion, 225 Candler Drive, Savannah, GA 31405.

GUEST BOOK

Susan was my best beloved friend in high school, but I lost contact with her many years ago. Reading these entries, I see she never lost her sense of humor and free spirit, and it sounds as though she grew into a most loving and caring woman, and that she lived a life of adventure and service. A life well-lived. Good job, Suzy.

On behalf of Isabel Curran and family, I wish to express our familie's deepest sympahty to your family during this most difficult time. Sue was a very loving and caring woman and while she will be missed tremendously by all that knew her, I am glad she did not have to endure long term pain and suffering with her illness. Words can not express the sorrow the Curran Family has for your great loss. Sincerely, Donna Rae Curran

I have known Susan only for a little while but found we had much in common. I loved Susan's smile and her optimistic spirit. She was fun to be with and had an energy I admired. We wish we could have had more time to get to know her better. Our condolences to Nick and all the family. Heather and Peter Pickerill

Knowing Susan for such a short time, meeting across a bridge table only six months ago, I am going to remember her with tears and laughter. Her smile lit up a room, her sense of humor was contagious, and her ability to laugh at herself and with others was such a joy!! I know she'll bounce in to heaven and exclaim, 'my body is all used up, but what a ride I have had!!' Blessed be, Suzi-Q

- Jean Lamphere, Savannah, GA

I met Susan last year playing golf in New Neighbors. She had so much energy and her love for life was something I admired most about Susan. She was like a little angel spilling her love on everyone she met. My prayers go out to her family.

Nick: My deepest sympathies during this most difficult time. My prayers are with you and all in your family. I want you to know that I was blessed to be Susan's friend at Pfizer. She provided sanity during an 'insane' time and we shared the most intense and side splitting laughter I have ever experienced while at the Master's meetings you know how she referred to them! I am still laughing and I know that she is too. She will inspire us all from Heaven and I am certain that she will inspire the angels with her wit, sense of humor and compassion. I am with you in spirit although I can not rearrange my business schedule to be there tomorrow. Rest in Peace my friend and God Bless you!

Susan was a very unique person. She had the biggest heart and full of life. She always wanted to give to others without accepting any praise. Her life has been cut short way too soon. There is no doubt she is now conducting a grand golf tourney in the sky. Rest in peace, my friend.
